About the project
With her first independent hair studio opening imminently, Subrina Kidd approached me to create an online home that perfectly reflected the one she was building for her business in the real world.
Project Highlights
- A brand and online presence that seamlessly integrates with and complements a beautiful real-world studio space
- An easy-to-navigate informational site that gives visitors a taste of what to expect IRL (and all the information they need to get there)
Process & Solutions
Planning & Strategy
Working with Subrina was a highly collaborative process. At the start of the project, we talked extensively about her personal brand and the business, so that I could understand her as a professional and as a person. We wanted to reflect Subrina’s personality in the branding and website, and at the same time, evoke a sense sophistication and luxury, appropriate to the salon’s price point and client list.
SKH is a high-end salon in a trendy part of East London, whose owner has a unique and elevated design aesthetic. The branding and the design of the website needed to fit in seamlessly with the already established style, and act as a window to the IRL experience.
The Website
One of the client’s main priorities, in terms of upkeep and aesthetic, was simplicity. As a self-confessed technophobe, she wanted the site to be easy to maintain. As such, I chose to build it on Squarespace, and throughout the design and build, worked to keep the site architecture as simple as possible.
I created a sitemap, having identified the key information that needed to go on the site, and its hierarchy. We further refined the structure following feedback from visitors when we launched the first iteration of the site.
The Brand
The branding was equally pared back, with sans serif fonts used across the majority of the copy and in the logo. We introduced an element of playfulness with the warm orange and yellow tones in the secondary colour palette, to give a nod to the different aspects of Subrina’s personality and background.
